The book: almost there

Well, 59,457 words are in the right order, spell-checked and double-checked. The manuscript for my new book “What the Dogs Taught Me” goes to Skyhorse Publishing in New York late this week. All that’s left is a final look at all the photos and illustrations, then a long wait.
Publication date (with any luck) is just before hunting season next year.
If you want a sneak peek, stay tuned here, or subscribe to my Upland Nation newsletter as I’ll be sharing bits and pieces between now and publication.
What do you think of the photo? It’s me and Buddy, shot at dawn by David LaBelle on Coyote Butte near my house.
Another decade, another book …

Time to scratch that itch … here’s the news release:
Television personality Scott Linden has signed a book deal with New York’s Skyhorse Publishing. Tentatively titled What the Dogs Taught Me, the work, he says, “will shave two years off the learning curve, empowering newcomers to better enjoy and stick with bird hunting and dog training. I hope to give them hard-earned knowledge sooner, not later.”
Hunting with over 200 dogs while hosting and producing his television series Wingshooting USA, Linden says he’s compiled the lessons he’s learned into book form. And while newcomers will benefit most, even upland veterans will have their “a-ha” moments, he says, “discovering helpful hints that make their days afield more productive. This book can best be described as a ‘201-level’ handbook for bird hunters with dogs,” he adds.
“I’ve learned so much simply by observing dogs. Not necessarily about training them, in fact just the opposite. The book will be like hunting with an experienced friend, observing his and his dog’s habits, the nuances and myriad little things that subconsciously become part of an uplander’s repertoire,” he added.
Tentatively scheduled for publication in fall 2013, the book will be available at all major book retailers, online and via Linden’s own website.
Founded in 2006 by Tony Lyons, former president and publisher of the Lyons Press, Skyhorse books are distributed in the U.S. by W.W. Norton. The firm has published three New York Times bestsellers and has more than 1,500 books on their backlist. In March 2011, Skyhorse was ranked as America’s fastest-growing small publisher by Publishers Weekly.
Scott Linden has created award-winning television series in collaboration with the National Shooting Sports Foundation, National Sporting Clays Association and Boy Scouts of America. His flagship series, “Wingshooting USA” is broadcast on Pursuit Channel and four other networks year-round. He is the author of the book Fun Family Outdoor Ideas, he writes a column for Ruralite magazine, and his work has been published in Sports Afield and Field & Stream magazines.
