I know, those are CATS in the photo. Brand-spanking-new kittens are the newest residents here at the rancho. Arrived last night and fitting in nicely so far.
I thought Flick was small, but these two are tiny, furry dots on the garage floor. Being sorta-feral rural-raised ranch cats, they are not shrinking violets. Around here, that’s good because everything is taller, bigger, heavier, than them.
The spate of newness here – young, small, fresh lives entering our world – got me to thinking (or as close to thinking as one gets at 5:40 a.m.): does everyone derive as much pleasure from puppies and kittens? I think I know one other person who does – but she’s still dozing so can’t confirm it. Little animals bring out the best in everyone, I think. Kinda helpless, high-pitched mews and barks, an inordinate respect for and need to rely on us (ego boost) … you just have to smile and give thanks.
With all the havoc in this world, it’s nice to know we can always pick up a young critter and forget about it for a short while.
