Wild West? We just lived it! Lynn Burdick and her sons Zach and Nick joined us as winners of the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s “Take Your Kid Hunting” sweepstakes, and what an adventure it was. Weather, horses, wagons, chukars, pheasants, Huns, lots of noise and a bucket-list experience for all.
Ruggs Ranch was the destination and we took full advantage of their 86,000 acres. Cropland, river bottoms, high country prairie, dramatic rocky canyons … all harbored birds to challenge the hard-working Ruggs dogs. Here’s a taste of the first day, which started at the Filson store in Portland where the Burdicks were ably outfitted by manager Nathan Gray. Don’t they look sporty in their Filson gear? Stay tuned – more to come!
Thanks for the shout out Tom, I was my pleasure!
I had a wonderful time in NH as one of the “runner-up” winners. We stayed at Lopstick Lodge (recommended) and enjoyed three days of wet grouse hunting. We were there during the hurricane but only got rained on.
There were many high lights including a our first morning guided by Dave Trahan. Although he has a truckload of GSP’s, we hunted with our dogs and Charlie was his usual all-star self with 4 finds on the first 45 minute hunt.
Special thanks to Ann Siladi for making everything happen.
Scott, Charlie’s also a great quail dog. Maybe lightning will strike twice and we’ll make the first team this year.
Lynn, you and your boys look terrific. I’m glad you had such a good time. I knew Scott would show you a good time.
Back atcha! Fun, work, and adventures a plenty. Stay warm up there in CT!
And the greatest part of our trip to Ruggs Ranch and Oregon was the people. They were incredible. Thank you Scott, Tad, Lynn, Dave, Nick, Corey, Adam, Samantha, Nathan and especially John (aka Cookie). Words can not explain the experience that we had. Thanks. LYNN, ZACH, and NICK
