Sitting here in downtown Los Angeles, city of my childhood, basking in the sun. That’s good. Doing the whole California-beach-relatives-art museums thing? Yeah, not so bad considering it’s time and effort in the bank come this fall.
Which leads to the question: what have you done, or are you willing to do, to cadge an extra day (or week) of hunting this fall? Chores, in-laws, clothes-shopping? How much time afield would you earn for thatching the lawn, for example?
Or, what do you do, willingly, knowing it will score brownie points some bird season? How do you “make nice” to your spouse, parents, kids or boss so you can leave early on a Friday? Do you those things knowing they will pay off in field time, or is it a gift? Who actually bestows that gift?
What works well for you? Any advice? I figure I’m good for an extra four days of chukar hunting after this (granted, mostly enjoyable) So-Cal excursion. What say you?
Help your brothers-of-the-long gun with this philosophical and practical dilemma!
I can’t believe I’m doing this; in order to garner goodwill during the next season, I’m taking my wife to Cancun. By the way – I HATE hot weather and am a child of the snow. She loves hot weather and would give anything to live where 90 degrees is a daily average.
Vaya con dios!
I am doing spring cleaning, prepping up the garden and fixing the leaks in the house so that by September 1, possibly Rabbit opener on July 1, I can get a green signal from wifey. Or take your loved ones to a nice spa resort in Puddingstone Regional Park, a nice overnight on tent or with your camper in the nearby campground during its moonlight special. Bring a smile to their faces and let them know it is their time, not yours….
Hah! Working on very similar things right now – lawn irrigation fixes Saturday.
