So, think you’re clever, creative, or just plain smart? Let’s gauge your innovativeness against the ultimate yardstick: your dog’s name.
We all know the AKC has it’s “issues,” starting with most dog-show handlers’ wardrobes. A bent toward toy breeds and too many tuxedos plants at least a seed of doubt in their statistics, but nobody else has bothered, so what the hey? Here are the top five dog names of 2007:

With the exception of #5 (which should be #1, at least in my book), most aren’t really much of a surprise. The most notable exceptions simply prove that AKC is really more show-oriented than hunting-oriented: absent are the missing names we all know and love: Jaeger, Ruger, Gauge, Hunter, Ranger, to name a few.

Stuart Little III, Don’t think its a good humting name? Let me explain. The dog was never supposed to be big. When He was born he was a bit handicapped. Vet said He would always be small. 5 years later this Bichon weighs 30 pounds and can run with a limp. He was bottle-fed. A rat is a great hunter they get in your house and hunt even Your food. He has to be walked all night and he caught a burglar in the house next door. They only got away with a small amount on foot. I guess that’s enough I would go on and on.
Dixi the Duetsch Kurzhaar. The name was already hers before I got her but I figured it fit being she was born in North Dakota and ended up in Tennessee.

My female DD is Savvy and I have a Male GSP named Chip that the kids named because of all those dark splotches in his white coat looked like chocolate chips.
P.S. Where is Cast and Blast?
Margo is my Viz. (Gas N’ Go Margo – she is as wound as a top and when she was a pup she used to pass gas – a lot!)
Pokey is my GSP (he just pokes around, flops on the floor and sleeps)
Current dogs are a yellow lab named Babe, and a beagle named Boomer. Past dogs were a yellow lab named Emma, a lab/brittany mix named Missy, a golden retriever named Cissy, and a Boston terrier named Ella.

I took my first shorthair home at 8 weeks where it rained for 38 days straight. I thought Noah was fitting. I have a pet peeve with going hunting and 4 guys in the field have the same dog names as mine. So my latest male is named in honor of Louis Lamour and John Wayne. I named him Hondo. My female is named Lacy.
My current dogs’ names are Cassie, Sierra and Tessa. But maybe the best hunting dog name I ever heard was Dargumas. It was the name of a fiery little springer that I hunted with several years ago that just loved to hunt pheasants. Dargumas, as I understand it, was the Greek god of hunting.
My dogs name is Brie. Couldn’t think of a more fitting name for a French dog living in Wisconsin than that of a French cheese.
