Alright, I stepped in it now: What do you get when you ask hundreds of bird hunters and gundog owners what they want in a TV show? My new series, Wingshooting USA. You told me how you really feel – I hope we do you justice on the program!
I’ve tried to cross “Dog Whisperer” with “A River Runs Through It,” and hope to create the definitive show on the subject … after all, it’s by passionate participants (us), for them (even you Lab owners
). We shot it in high definition, and we’ll focus on the FUN of this great sport and (finally!) honor the dogs that make it all possible.
Thanks to feedback from 400 of my closest friends (you all) as well as formal polling and research (you all, again thanks), I will try to focus on the “good stuff,” literally and figuratively: lots of dog work, habitat and birds, advice and instruction, strategy and tactics. There will also be chances to ”Win a Shot on the Show,” vote for your favorite dog breed, and become a better shooter, dog owner and bird hunter … at least I hope you will.
Starting in late September, we launch on In Country TV (ICTV), Dish Network Channel 230, Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. (East) and
Saturdays 11:00 a.m. (East). You can also watch on the Sportsman Channel (DirecTV Channel 605 and many cable systems), Thursdays 12:30 p.m. and Saturdays 11:30 p.m. (East)
We’ll travel from Montana to Kansas, South Dakota to Oregon … hunting behind shorthairs, Irish Red Setters, even a Lab or two among the pointers and versatile breeds just to mix it up. Of course, Buddy will be there. Friends new and old join will join me in a variety of coverts on hunts for ringnecks, bobwhites, Hungarian partridge and sharptail grouse. Valley quail might even make the cut … if we can hit any of them!
I couldn’t do it without lead sponsor National Shooting Sports Foundation. If you’re looking for a place to hunt visit www.wingshootingusa.org. Wingshooting USA is the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s effort to boost bird hunting participation. You can visit www.wingshootingusa.org and find nearby hunting preserves, lodges and outfitters with the click of a mouse.
“Access to quality hunting and limited time are the two biggest challenges facing today’s hunters,” said Dave Miles, NSSF director of marketing and broadcast media. “We recognized that, for many, hunting preserves provide the perfect answer.”
And thanks to our other our charter sponsors: Black’s Wing & Clay Waterfowl, Native Dog Food, artist Ross Young, and lead TV network In Country TV.
If you haven’t put your two cents’ worth in yet, make a comment below. And if you know of any companies who might sponsor the show, call me at 541-382-1726.
Wish me luck!

I saw the show for the first time this morning, hunting pheasants in the dakotas.I was impressed to see a couple doubles, what bothered me was more then once there were shots taken toward the road, which appeared pretty close, even saw a school bus going down the road,I’m glad my son was fishing and didn’t see the (pros) take those shots, just my two cents.
Yep, John, we probably shouldn’t have used, let alone taken a few of those shots. The road is actually farther from the field than you might think – cameras booger up the perspective. And it is legal in SD to shoot over those type of roads, according to our on-camera discussion with Sal. But probably not the best example. Mea culpa. Never again! So let your son put up the rod and watch next time. Thanks.
Congrads Scott,
I am very excited about the upcoming show. I have been a birdhunter over pointing dogs from birth. I have now made it a 12 month a year lifstyle.
In the fall I start my season of bird hunting with a trip to Michigan. Funny, this started as a 4 day hunt and is now up to 10 days splitting our time between Lower and Upper Pennisula. I then return to upstate N.Y. and settle in with hunting local birds and guiding bird hunts for one of our local Gamer Farms. Throw in judging for the AKC Pointing Dog Hunt tests and a few customer traing sessions and the falls goes by way to quick. If the winter permits I hunt straight through the winter. Splitting my time between wild birds and game farm birds.
Spring and summer brings dog training and more AKC judging which will briing me back to my beloved fall again.
I believe the Brittany puppies on your website is of a litter I raised 4 years ago. I had a theory and it paid off.
I bred my field trial Britt into a field/ Navhda Britt line and the results where unblieveable. All 7 puppies in the litter do it all in the water as well as the field. If you wish for more information I would be happy to share details by email or phone. (315) 331-4356.
Good luck and looking forward to viewing. Pictures forth coming

I can’t wait for the first episode! I think focusing on the FUN of the sport is the key. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, neither can I. Life is too short to do things that don’t prompt at least a smile, and maybe a laugh or two.
Congratulations, Scott! This sounds like a great show with all the right content. I’m be looking for it come September.
I’ll do my best, thanks.
